Laser Eye Sugery
No more myopia anymore!

Myopia is a visual disorder that affects men and women. It is either inherited thus appearing at an early age or it is due to the aging process as the eye becomes spoiled and fragile.

The myopic eye is known as a too long eye i.e. the distance between the cornea and the retina becomes too long causing images beyond 5 meters to focus in front of the retina instead of directly on it. Nearsightedness occurs when the cornea is too curved or the eye is too long.

People affected with myopia have more difficulty seeing distant objects as clearly as near objects.

Wearing eyeglasses or contact lenses can correct nearsightedness but nowadays thanks to the laser technology this visual disorder may totally disappear within few seconds.

The two common forms of laser vision correction are the Lasik laser surgery and the Excimer laser surgery.

These two procedures are short and very simple and are performed under local anesthesia administered by anesthetic eye drops.

The Excimer Laser

The Excimer Laser consists in applying the laser after surgical removal of the outermost layer of the cornea ) The Epithelium).

The Lasik Laser

In this procedure, the surgeon creates a thin flap in the cornea, applies the Excimer laser then replaces the corneal flap in its original position. Stitches are not required.

Keeping eyelids open during the procedure is a must. The instrument used for this purpose may cause a certain discomfort. However, the operation itself is completely painless.

In the immediate day following the procedure, 99%of patients who undergone the Lasik laser surgery see correctly. However, those who have had the Excimer laser surgery must wait for a few days to achieve a perfect vision.

The main post-procedure symptoms are irritations, inflammations, and sensibility for the light as well as some cloudiness. In order to prevent eye dryness the doctor will prescribe artificial tears; sunglasses should be worn when going out. It is important also not to rub your eyes and to avoid driving for the next 24 hours. Moreover, further operations to adjust the result are possible after the initial one.
